HONORABLE MENSCHEN, BOSTON-BASED JEWISH A CAPPELLA GROUP, GOES INTO THE STUDIO TO RECORD FIRST CD; SEEKS TO EXPAND CONCERT CALENDAR (CAMBRIDGE) -- Honorable Menschen, Boston's premiere semi-professional Jewish a cappella group, is completing its first CD, By the River, with an expected release in December 2008. Widely acclaimed for its unique blend of Jewish, Israeli, and World musical repertoire, Honorable Menschen seeks to expand its presence in the community by performing at a wide variety of Jewish celebrations (weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, etc). The group's expansive and specialized repertoire can accommodate any of these occasions, and includes such songs as "Uf Gozal," "Mitachat LaShamayim," "By the Rivers of Babylon," "Eitz Chayim," Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," "Abayudaya Hinei" (a Ugandan-Jewish song), and Duke Ellington's "Creole Love Call," as well as standards such as "Hava Nagila," "Shalom Aleichem," and "Erev Shel Shoshanim." Many songs in the group's repertoire have been arranged by current and former members. Honorable Menschen was founded in 1997 as an all-male a cappella group, and became co-educational in 1999. Its membership consists of graduate students and young professionals, many of whom have sung in collegiate a cappella groups. Currently, the membership includes 14 singers: 3 sopranos, 5 altos, 3 tenors, and 3 basses. Honorable Menschen has performed at a variety of local venues, including MIT, Harvard Hillel, Temple Ohabei Shalom (Brookline), and the Tremont Street Shul (Cambridge). During the 2006-2007 season, the group performed at the rededication of the Vilna Shul and participated in Combined Jewish Philanthropies' first A Cappella Fest: A Night of Great College Music and Art to Benefit Haifa and Northern Israel at Congregation Kehillath Israel. A demo CD, consisting of a medley of live tracks recorded in the past two years, is available upon request and on the Honorable Menschen website.
